Twitter threads I've made mostly about Artemis of Bana-Mighdall cuz that's what I'm all about on twitter
This will take you to my AO3 account
A reading guide for anyone who wants to get into Artemis of Bana-Mighadall aka Artemis Grace
* The wikia is for Artemis the book by Andy Weir not Artemis my favourite DC character from Wonder Woman and Red Hood and the Outlaws nor Artemis the Greek goddess of the moon, archery amongst many things. I know... it's confusing.
My Favourite Books
1. The Martian by Andy Weir
A hilarious and gripping book about one man's struggle to survive alone on an inhospitable plane. Mark Watney will stop at nothing to get back home and neither will his crew who are hurtling through space at the mercy of gravity and NASA.
TW + CW: Isolation, abandonment
2. The Song of Achilles by Madeline Miller
A beautifully written book about Achilles and Patroclus' relationship from childhood through to the Trojan War from the Iliad. It's poetic and tragic and brings you love and war in all its forms.TW + CW: Rape/non-con, war, NSFW, period typical homophobia
3. Project Hail Mary by Andy Weir
The Martian’s spiritual sequel; Ryland Grace combats the problems of travelling in deep space, a catastrophic deadline and amnesia to try and save earth from total destruction with a great but very strange crew.
TW + CW: Isolation, dead bodies, amnesia, extreme climate change
4. Percy Jackson and the Lightning Thief by Rick Riordan
A fresh take on ancient myths in the modern world (if you can call 2005 modern) as a young boy struggles with school, ADHD, quests and fighting the forces of evil in the form of mythological creatures.
TW + CW: Hints of domestic abuse, death
5. Fangirl by Rainbow Rowell
A shy girl struggles with starting university alongside her outgoing twin as well as juggling finishing her Harry Pot-Twiligh- Simon Snow fan fiction and falling in love.
6. The Gorgon Side by Al R. Arce
Medusa's story isn't about a monster, it was always a story about a woman unfairly punished for someone else's crimes. But this isn't just any Medusa story, this is lesbian Medusa story!
TW + CW: Rape/non-con, homelessness, beheading, war
7. A Thousand Ships by Natalie Haynes
A devastating and eye opening look into the women of the Trojan war from Queen Hecuba of Troy, to the often forgotten Oenone, first wife of Paris and everyone inbetween.
TW + CW: War, rape, slavery, death, human sacrifices, prisoners of war, sexism, urbicide
8. Carry On (Simon Snow Trilogy but ONLY the 1st one) by Rainbow Rowell
Carry On is Harry Potter meets Twilight. The Chosen One Simon Snow isn't your typical British magician tasked with stopping an evil wizard and being used by a magic head master as a child soldier, he's also in love with a vampire.
PS This is the fanfic from Fangirl the book.
TW + CW: Child soldiers, vampires
9. Red, White & Royal Blue by Casey McQuinston
First Son of the POTUS meets the Prince of England and sparks fly in more than one way. Your classic rivals to lovers, even if one of them doesn't even realise they're in competition.
Prince Henry has to hide his sexuality or risk everything. FS Alex hasn't even realised his own sexuality. They live on opposite sides of the earth. What could go wrong?
TW + CW: Homophobia, outing, past drug abuse/addiction, grieving a parent
10. House of Hades by Rick Riordan (Heroes of Olympus series)Percy and Annabeth face their greatest challenge yet and the rest of the Seven and Nico race to meet them at the end of it, going through their own trials and tribulations in order to save each other and the world.
CW + TW: Literal hell
11. The Declaration Trilogy by Gemma Malley
A devastating trilogy about a dystopian run down world where 'surplus' people are looked down upon and the people who fight back.
If anything should have dominated during the height of teen dystopian fiction, it should have been this alongside HG.
TW + CW: Dystopian future, orphans
12. Artemis by Andy Weir
Jazz Bashara only wanted to do a job that would set her for life but stumbles across a criminal conspiracy that endangers her entire city. Also she is on the moon.
TW + CW: Homelessness, Arson, Government Corruption, Murder, Conspiracy
13. Metamorphoses by Ovid
The great transformations of Ancient Greek and Roman mythology and the consequences of getting involved with the gods, even by accident.TW + CW: Rape/non-con, Period Typical Sexism, (mostly unwanted) Body transformations and sex changes
14. Recursion by Blake Crouch
Dtc. Barry Sutton finds himself embroiled in a mystery that's affecting people's memories worldwide and as he soon comes to realise time itself.
Dr Helena Smith just wants to help people but her help comes with some unintended consequences.
TW + CW: Time Travel, Wars, Death, Suicide, Murder, Cops, Conspiracy
15. Tomorrow and Tomorrow and Tomorrow by Gabrielle Zevin
Sam Mazur and Sadie Green, two sad kids, meet in a hospital and play some games and that becomes the basis for their entire lives. Games, trials and tribulations, they learn and grow together and apart.
TW + CW: Discomfort around a disability, Teacher-student relationship, Death, Mass shooting.
16. Yellowface by Rebecca F. Kuang
June wants to be a world renown writer and she doesn't really mind doing something despicable to make her dream come true when the opportunity presents itself, everyone else and common decency be damned.
TW + CW: Racism/Cultural Appropriation, Death, Bullying/Harrassment.
17. Deep Cuts by Holly Brickley
A trio of university friends go through the rest of their lives loving and hating each other in equal measure and letting their passions and the trapfalls of adult life pull them apart and then back together over the course of years.A college coming-of-age, a 2000s throwback, a wake up call for the apathetic feminist and a love letter to music of all genres.
*TW + CW: Sexual Harassment/Assault, Drug Use
18. I, Medusa by Ayana Gray
Medusa is constantly othered in every place she is supposed to call home, taken advantage of by the people who are supposed to protect her; the gods through Meddy's eyes become the morally repugnant, petty and petulant individuals from myth. And in the light of that a Medusa who was born to be a meek and mild princess of two forgotten gods, but is forced to be the pawn of the gods, instead becomes a protector and an avenger of wronged women.
*TW + CW: Sexual Harassment, Sexual Assault, Grooming, Xenophobia/Racism, Sexism & Misogyny, Victim Blaming.
18. This is How You Lose the Time War by Amal El-Mohtar and Max Gladstone
Red and Blue two time-travelling soldiers on opposite sides of the war start leaving messages for each other across different Strands. At first taunting but gradually it developed into something more. If you like flowery language, enemies to lovers lesbians and time wars this is the book for you. It's also only 200 pages.
TW + CW: Time Travel inc. period typical problems, Wars, Basically futuristic cults (?)
