Twitter threads I've made mostly about Artemis of Bana-Mighdall cuz that's what I'm all about on twitter
This will take you to my AO3 account
A reading guide for anyone who wants to get into Artemis of Bana-Mighadall aka Artemis Grace
* The wikia is for Artemis the book by Andy Weir not Artemis my favourite DC character from Wonder Woman and Red Hood and the Outlaws nor Artemis the Greek goddess of the moon, archery amongst many things. I know... it's confusing.
My Favourite Books
2023 Reading Challenge
1. The Martian by Andy Weir
A hilarious and gripping book about one man's struggle to survive alone on an inhospitable plane. Mark Watney will stop at nothing to get back home and neither will his crew who are hurtling through space at the mercy of gravity and NASA.
TW + CW: Isolation, abandonment
2. The Song of Achilles by Madeline Miller
A beautifully written book about Achilles and Patroclus' relationship from childhood through to the Trojan War from the Iliad. It's poetic and tragic and brings you love and war in all its forms.TW + CW: Rape/non-con, war, NSFW, period typical homophobia
3. Project Hail Mary by Andy Weir
The Martian’s spiritual sequel; Ryland Grace combats the problems of travelling in deep space, a catastrophic deadline and amnesia to try and save earth from total destruction with a great but very strange crew.
TW + CW: Isolation, dead bodies, amnesia, extreme climate change
4. Percy Jackson and the Lightning Thief by Rick Riordan
A fresh take on ancient myths in the modern world (if you can call 2005 modern) as a young boy struggles with school, ADHD, quests and fighting the forces of evil in the form of mythological creatures.
TW + CW: Hints of domestic abuse, death
5. Fangirl by Rainbow Rowell
A shy girl struggles with starting university alongside her outgoing twin as well as juggling finishing her Harry Pot-Twiligh- Simon Snow fan fiction and falling in love.
6. The Gorgon Side by Al R. Arce
Medusa's story isn't about a monster, it was always a story about a woman unfairly punished for someone else's crimes. But this isn't just any Medusa story, this is lesbian Medusa story!
TW + CW: Rape/non-con, homelessness, beheading, war
7. A Thousand Ships by Natalie Haynes
A devastating and eye opening look into the women of the Trojan war from Queen Hecuba of Troy, to the often forgotten Oenone, first wife of Paris and everyone inbetween.
TW + CW: War, rape, slavery, death, human sacrifices, prisoners of war, sexism, urbicide
8. Carry On (Simon Snow Trilogy but ONLY the 1st one) by Rainbow Rowell
Carry On is Harry Potter meets Twilight. The Chosen One Simon Snow isn't your typical British magician tasked with stopping an evil wizard and being used by a magic head master as a child soldier, he's also in love with a vampire.
PS This is the fanfic from Fangirl the book.
TW + CW: Child soldiers, vampires
9. Red, White & Royal Blue by Casey McQuinston
First Son of the POTUS meets the Prince of England and sparks fly in more than one way. Your classic rivals to lovers, even if one of them doesn't even realise they're in competition.
Prince Henry has to hide his sexuality or risk everything. FS Alex hasn't even realised his own sexuality. They live on opposite sides of the earth. What could go wrong?
TW + CW: Homophobia, outing, past drug abuse/addiction, grieving a parent
10. House of Hades by Rick Riordan (Heroes of Olympus series)Percy and Annabeth face their greatest challenge yet and the rest of the Seven and Nico race to meet them at the end of it, going through their own trials and tribulations in order to save each other and the world.
CW + TW: Literal hell
11. The Declaration Trilogy by Gemma Malley
A devastating trilogy about a dystopian run down world where 'surplus' people are looked down upon and the people who fight back.
If anything should have dominated during the height of teen dystopian fiction, it should have been this alongside HG.
TW + CW: Dystopian future, orphans
12. Artemis by Andy Weir
Jazz Bashara only wanted to do a job that would set her for life but stumbles across a criminal conspiracy that endangers her entire city. Also she is on the moon.
TW + CW: Homelessness, Arson, Government Corruption, Murder, Conspiracy
13. Metamorphoses by Ovid
The great transformations of Ancient Greek and Roman mythology and the consequences of getting involved with the gods, even by accident.TW + CW: Rape/non-con, Period Typical Sexism, (mostly unwanted) Body transformations and sex changes
14. Recursion by Blake Crouch
Dtc. Barry Sutton finds himself embroiled in a mystery that's affecting people's memories worldwide and as he soon comes to realise time itself.
Dr Helena Smith just wants to help people but her help comes with some unintended consequences.
TW + CW: Time Travel, Wars, Death, Suicide, Murder, Cops, Conspiracy
15. Tomorrow and Tomorrow and Tomorrow by Gabrielle Zevin
Sam Mazur and Sadie Green, two sad kids, meet in a hospital and play some games and that becomes the basis for their entire lives. Games, trials and tribulations, they learn and grow together and apart.
TW + CW: Discomfort around a disability, Teacher-student relationship, Death, Mass shooting.
16. This is How You Lose the Time War by Amal El-Mohtar and Max Gladstone
Red and Blue two time-travelling soldiers on opposite sides of the war start leaving messages for each other across different Strands. At first taunting but gradually it developed into something more. If you like flowery language, enemies to lovers lesbians and time wars this is the book for you. It's also only 200 pages.
TW + CW: Time Travel inc. period typical problems, Wars, Basically futuristic cults (?)

➳ Law & Order: SVU
This is a good show, it's a good watch the various seasons have different enough plots and characters and crazy cases that you don't get bored watching 22 years worth of episodes and it's a much loved show.Rating its copaganda is kind of hard to do because on one hand the characters make mistakes, do things wrong and side characters will usually get their comupance, main characters at least acknowledge they're in the wrong and this show is very much a cathartic watch for people who like watching people guilty of the most heinous of crimes, sexual violence and crimes against children but it also has violent cops likes Stabler get away with being unethical and overly excessive with force with no consequences or at least not until its time for the actor to move on from the show.
➳ Chicago PD
I got through a good 4 seasons of this show before I gave up. I only started watching it because I was big into 9-1-1 and SVU and the reason that is relevant is because Law & Order and the One Chicago Universe are one and the same and crossover every now and then and I started watching Chicago Fire which is the OG show in the One Chicago Universe because like 9-1-1 it was a firefighter heavy show and I wanted to get a good feel for that space. This show is egregious copaganda. Not only do the main characters commit terrible crimes and civil rights infringements and illegal acts of violence against criminals and citizens alike but they also constantly justify it. The one guy who joins the team to be the checks and balances 'I'll take them down from the inside' basically just falls in line because he thinks sometimes its necesarry and he's in love with one of them. Every time they cross over with SVU Oliva Benson has to specifically ask them to follow the law because they're so terrible at it. Also some of how the MC escapes punishment for all his many crimes doesn't even make sense. He makes a deal with the FBI to basically act as a CI who is also a cop, he screws over the FBI guy and rather than getting sent to prison again, the FBI guy just gets fired and replaced and then he does it again with the new FBI guy. HE SHOULD BE IN JAIL! They have a cage in the basement of the police station specifically for torturing and pretending to torture/beat up criminals and suspects who aren't talking.Absolute menaces.
➳ Brooklyn Nine-Nine
I love this show, I wish it had gone for another season but it ended on a good full circle note. This show got some criticism for being copaganda because it portrays the police in a good light but I disagree. Firstly it is a sitcom which means any thoughts about them being bad or selfish people or people bad at their jobs who the audience still loves and roots for is a product of the genre, not of them trying to normalise and lionise the police, look at shows like The Office, Parks and Rec, and Always Sunny for more examples.
Furthermore, pretty much every season of the show highlighted or had major plot points about how the police force/American justice system as a whole were racist, sexist, corrupt, unjust, lazy, and a whole host of other things. Even Jake the main character did some not-so-great things using his badge and usually the lesson at the end is that he was wrong, they may have been more obvious about the reason why in S8 but it was always there.
➳ 9-1-1
Another great show. S1 is a somewhat different vibe from the rest of the show but overall it's one of my favourite shows and the later 5 season are definitely worth the somewhat odd first season. This show only has one police officer as a major character played by the Oscar-winning Angela Basset, the other major characters are all fire-fighters and there's always a 9-1-1 dispatcher or two in the mix. Her plots definitely grow bigger as the show goes on and as it does it seems they become more cognizant of the fact that in a roundabout way they have become a cop show (especially given how often these firefighters start investigating crimes) and talk more about the drawbacks of the police force but overall I think it's not too copagandary.
➳ 9-1-1: Lone Star
This show took some growing to but now I love it. I think S1 again is the worst, partly because the charcters didn't have much depth in that first season and it felt like a ham-fisted attempt and making the show more woke from the ground up also I didn't like the secondary lead and her replacement in the later seasons was miles better no offence.Like it's predeseor it's a show mostly about Firefighters with one main Cop character and he's a lot lower ranked than Basset's character but I think he get's more involved earlier on and with his father being a Texas Ranger and their conversations about their jobs I think it's stronger copaganda than the original show is.
➳ Criminal Minds
I love this show, this is very much an ansemble show so as various cast members cycle in and out the quality of the characterisations and the connections between them vary but the cases are usually good (as in really bad but fun to try and solve/watch them solve). The best team is the S3 cast after Rossi joins the team.I appreciate that the Feds in this show are usually very on it with police procedure, due process ect. They're not out here constantly breaking the law, threatening people, breaking and entering ect, apart from Penelope's occasional hacks, they just do honest profiling. So it doesn't show illegal police action in a good light which is a plus, so I guess outside of just generally painting the FBI in a good light its not too brazen in its copaganda.
➳ NCIS
I do like this show, I watched 20 seasons of it so I'd better but there was definitely a decline in the characters after Ziva left and then again after Bishop, Abby and then Gibbs left, no offence to Parker, Knight, Torres and anyone else who's come through since then. This show also involves federal agents but because they're Navy cops their cases vary wildly between international terrorism, national security and just run-of-the-mill two-bit crimes committed by Navy personnel. Gibbs and McGee are constantly breaking the rules and doing the procedure out of order for the good of solving the case and are portrayed as heroes because of it, so in that sense a little more liberal with the Fed Copaganda.
➳ S.W.A.T.
